Chelsea appear to have been handed a crucial update in their pursuit of Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The 21-year-old has been the centre of a transfer saga ever since outlining his desire to leave the Seagulls in January. At the start of the year, Caicedo looked to be Arsenal-bound but the Blues have since overtaken the Gunners in the race to sign Brighton’s prize asset, who are able to drive a hard bargain after the midfielder signed a new deal in March.

Mauricio Pochettino is looking to bolster Chelsea’s midfield options after allowing Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to head for the exit door. Chelsea and Brighton have been engaged in talks over a move for the Ecuador international but Caicedo has seemingly made his feelings clear over his next destination.

It has been reported by Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law, via the London is Blue podcast, that Brighton are ‘determined’ to see that their £100million valuation is met. Talks are said to be ongoing between the two clubs but a deal is not thought to be imminent, though the midfielder was seemingly promised a summer transfer as part of signing his new deal.

However, despite the back-and-forth, Caicedo is stated to have essentially already ‘committed’ himself to Chelsea. football.london has previously stated that Caicedo has verbally agreed personal terms with Chelsea , although nothing has been signed as it stands.

This will be welcome news to Blues fans, following reports that Liverpool are considering a move for Caicedo as the Reds await a transfer windfall from the potential sales of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson. Jurgen Klopp’s side were previously credited with an interest in the Brighton man back in January, alongside Chelsea and Arsenal.

“It’s a big team, that’s true,” Caicedo said, when asked about a possible move to the Blues. “A very historic team and I can’t say no because it’s a very big, historic, beautiful team. The city as well is beautiful.”
