Manchester United fans remain frustrated as the takeover saga continues to rumble on.

The Glazers are continuing to mull over the two offers which are on the table for United. Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is proposing a 100 per cent buyout from the American owners, meaning they would leave the club following the completion of the deal.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, meanwhile, is proposing an approximate 60 per cent offer which would leave the prospect of the Glazers remaining at the club on the table. While the indecision continues, Erik ten Hag, his players and the fans remain in the dark about the future of the club.

Sheikh Jassim could prevent Cantona vow

Ever since Eric Cantona’s shock departure, Manchester United fans have wondered if he could ever be tempted to return.

The Reds legend retired at the top of his game, aged just 30 in 1997, breaking the hearts of millions of United fans in the process. But the club’s pending takeover could potentially open the door for Cantona to come back in a role behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

The Glazers announced their decision to ‘seek strategic alternatives’ for the club in November, with Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe quickly emerging as frontrunners to purchase the club. And reports have suggested Sheikh Jassim could offer roles at the club to United legends should he become the club’s new owner.

Ratcliffe’s old United quotes resurface

Back in 2019, Ratcliffe made his feelings known about how the Glazers ran United and what he would do differently if he was in charge. He told The Times: “[INEOS] never wants to be the dumb money in town, never. They [United] are in quite a big pickle as a business. They haven’t got the manager selection right, haven’t bought well.

“They have been the dumb money, which you see with players like Fred. United have spent an immense amount since [Sir Alex] Ferguson left and been poor, to put it mildly. Shockingly poor, to be honest.

“We have a different approach here to be moderately intelligent about it. Try to do it more grassroots, trying to locate young talent. Some clubs seem to have an ability to do that, Southampton, Lille. United have done it really poorly. They have lost the plot.”
