Filming Intimate Scenes with Angelina Jolie Was an Actual Nightmare For Antonio Banderas, and Here’s Why
Antonio Banderas’ experience of making a movie together with Angelina Jolie turned out to be a nightmare for him — especially their near-impossible intimate scenes.
Angelina Jolie has been the queen of Hollywood for many years, and we are yet to see another person shine in that role as much as she did. With the paparazzi following her every step, Jolie still managed to build a phenomenal career, have a big loving family, and make changes in the world on a larger scale. That’s just how she is.
Jolie is a unique person and an amazing actress, with many of her performances receiving much-deserved praise and awards; however, she’s also been named the most beautiful woman on the planet on more than one occasion. Like a plethora of her other titles, this one does suit Angelina perfectly, and it has been for years.
You’d think that most male actors would’ve 𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁ed to co-star as Jolie’s romantic partner in one of her movies, right? Well, maybe they would’ve — but according to Antonio Banderas, who’s actually “been there, done that,” the reality of filming intimate scenes with Angelina Jolie is far from what most people would imagine.
Banderas and Jolie played lovers in 2001’s erotic thriller Original Sin, and they had quite a few passionate scenes between their characters. The process of filming them was not at all what the actor had envisioned: it was unbearably complicated and uncomfortable for the sole reason that he wasn’t even allowed to touch his partner.
“Doing a 𝓈ℯ𝓍 scene with Angelina Jolie was the same as doing a scene where I have to fall off a horse. You have to make it look real, but it just isn’t. We had to do a very intense 𝓈ℯ𝓍 scene in Original Sin but, of course, it’s nothing like the way it looks on screen. I couldn’t touch her, because she had tattoos everywhere and they had to be covered with makeup, so I had to try not to dislodge it,” explained the actor to Daily Mail.
As if not being able to touch his co-star’s skin in any way while trying to play a passionate intimate scene wasn’t enough on its own, there were the technicalities getting in the way, too. The actor wasn’t feeling comfortable whatsoever.
“When there are 150 guys around you and every 20 seconds they shout ‘Cut!’ and then mess with your hair and the positioning of your arms, it’s not 𝓈ℯ𝓍y at all. I was completely nɑƙeɗ and of course, you worry that you may get aroused — and it happens sometimes — but then you think to yourself, ‘So what?'” Banderas added.
So whatever you might have thought about being a beautiful actress’s on-screen romantic partner, the reality is very different as we keep discovering with every weird and uncomfortable revelation from top-tier actors. Filming intimate scenes is a nightmare for everyone involved, and there’s no joy there whatsoever.
