In a shocking incident that left millions of people around the world in disbelief, Portuguese football legend Cristiao Roaldo was involved in a serious accident just minutes after what should have been one of the happiest moments of his life.
According to local reports, the 40-year-old superstar proposed to his long-term girlfriend Georgia Rodrígez in a private and peaceful location on the Cascais coast, west of Lisbon. Witnesses described the proposal as “beautiful and emotional”, with Roaldo presenting Georgia with a huge diamond believed to be worth more than €1 million. The couple are said to have celebrated with close friends before setting off on their way home.
Police reports say Roaldo’s car was involved in a violent collision on the A5 motorway at around 8:45 p.m. local time. Emergency services were quickly on the scene and Roaldo was taken to Saña Maria Hospital in Lisbon. Details of his condition remain unclear, but medical staff have confirmed that he is in a “critical but stable” condition. Georgia, who was travelling with him, has experienced some mild symptoms and is currently being monitored closely.

Videos taken earlier in the evening showed Ronaldo smiling, holding hands, surrounded by candles and flowers. Ronaldo, dressed in a smart navy suit, appeared before Georgina as she covered her mouth in shock before saying “yes”.
