‘Nothing major’: £39m Chelsea player is fine despite not featuring against Arsenal – journalist

Chelsea fans do not need to worry about Axel Disasi despite the defender not playing against Arsenal.

Axel Disasi had started every Premier League game this season before the 2-2 draw with Mikel Arteta’s men. He was only able to make the bench for the London derby and was an unused substitute.

Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella, though, has told the London Is Blue podcast that the Frenchman does not have a serious injury problem and probably could have played in the match.

Disasi will now be hoping that he is restored to the starting XI when Chelsea take on west London rivals Brentford this Saturday.

Axel Disasi not a concern

Disasi should be fit enough to start when Chelsea host Brentford at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking about the 25-year-old on the London Is Blue podcast, Kinsella said: “That’s definitely nothing major. I mean, I think they could’ve played him if they had to for the last game.”

Axel Disasi to start against Brentford?

Again, before the Arsenal game, Disasi had started in all of Chelsea’s Premier League matches.

The Blues do have injuries in central defence, but Mauricio Pochettino clearly likes the Frenchman, who arrived at Stamford Bridge from AS Monaco in a £38.8m deal (Sky Sports). If that were not the case, then Levi Colwill would surely have been playing at centre-back alongside Thiago Silva instead of at left-back.

With that in mind, then, we think Disasi will return to Chelsea’s starting XI on Saturday, with Colwill moving back to the left side of the defence and Marc Cucurella dropping out.

It is something Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf would probably not be against, with the former defender recently expressing his love for Disasi and the rest of the Blues’ French contingent.

If Disasi does play against Brentford, hopefully he can help prevent the team from collapsing like they did versus Arsenal if they find themselves in the lead again.
