LeBron James Can Become The First Player Since Wilt Chamberlain And ‘Pistol’ Pete Maravich To Have His Jersey Retired By Three Teams

  • LeBron James could have his jersey retired by three NBA teams – the Cavaliers, Heat, and Lakers
  • James would become the third player in NBA history to have his jersey retired by three teams
  • The only other players to have this honor are Wilt Chamberlain and ‘Pistol’ Pete Maravich

There is no denying that LeBron James is one of the greatest players in NBA history. No player has dominated the NBA and found such continued success as LeBron James has over his 20-year (and counting) career. James is far from retiring, but his retirement could actually create more history than he anticipated.

LeBron James has played for only three teams in his NBA career; the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Miami Heat, and now, the Los Angeles Lakers.

Upon his retirement, should each team retire his jersey, James will become only the third player in NBA history to have his jersey be retired by three NBA franchises, joining Wilt Chamberlain and ‘Pistol’ Pete Maravich on the list.

For LeBron, this would be the ultimate honor, and would further solidify him as one of the greatest players in the history of basketball. While James is already looked at one of the all-time greats, him being enshrined in the history of these three franchises would be a legendary moment.

Can LeBron James Win Another NBA Championship With The Los Angeles Lakers?

Recently, Jeanie Buss confirmed that the Lakers will indeed retire LeBron James’ jersey when he walks away from the game.

However, there has been a lot of debate over whether both of LeBron’s numbers, 6 and 23, will be retired by the Lakers. Some have argued that both will be retired because of what he accomplished in both, while others believe he will only have one jersey retired.

James will return to his signature number 23 jersey next season, giving up number 6 to show his respect to the late great Bill Russell.

With number 23 back on his jersey, James will look to recreate his initial Lakers success with that number and win an NBA championship.

Last season, James averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists, as he helped the Lakers complete a miraculous turnaround and reach the play-in tournament.

From there, he and the Lakers went on a solid run and reached the Western Conference Finals.

The Denver Nuggets would sweep LeBron and the Lakers, but they showed signs of promise during the second half of the year.

The Lakers have improved their roster, and could make a legitimate championship run next season if they can keep things going well.
