Manchester United ‘close’ to making second summer signing and more transfer rumours

Man United transfer gossip includes the club reportedly ‘closing in’ on the signing of highly-rated Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

Manchester United are ‘close’ to wrapping up the signing of Urawa Red Diamonds goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.

That is according to a report by Japanese sports newspaper Sponichi, who claim that United are ready to make the shot-stopper the most expensive player in the history of the J League. United, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, are open to signing two goalkeepers this summer if David de Gea leaves the club.

The Reds have installed Inter Milan shot-stopper Andre Onana as their primary target to become the club’s new No.1 goalkeeper and will attempt to sign a back-up option if De Gea moves on. The Spaniard has technically already left Old Trafford after his contract expired last week, but United do remain in talks with him over a new deal.

In the event of them needing a back-up shot-stopper, Suzuki, 20, could be a possible candidate. He is considered as one of the best young goalkeepers in the business and has reportedly been tracked by United since 2017.

The report claims that United have already made a formal offer of £5million for his signature. It also states that negotiations between the two clubs are ‘progressing smoothy’ and that a deal is viewed as being ‘imminent’.

Suzuki, who has represented Japan at various youth levels, has made 28 senior appearances for Urawa Reds, keeping 11 clean sheets in the process.

Meanwhile, Roma are said to be ‘interested’ in signing United midfielder Scott McTominay. That is according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, as cited by United In Focus, who claims that the Scot is on a ‘list or targets’ for the Serie A club.

Roma are, of course, managed by former United boss Jose Mourinho and he awarded McTominay his Reds debut back in 2017. It is reported that the Portuguese chief is now interested in a reunion with the 26-year-old, who made 39 appearances in all competitions for United last term.

The Scotland international faces a potentially uncertain future at Old Trafford this summer after United bolstered their midfield department with the signing of Mason Mount on Wednesday. There is a general feeling that one of either McTominay or Fred will be sold this summer, though, as things stand, the Brazilian is the more likely candidate to depart.
