Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks Interested In Signing Bol Bol

The Orlando Magic have released forward Bol Bol in a move that has surprised many NBA fans that saw Bol have the best season of his young career in Orlando. This wasn’t a hasty decision to open up a roster spot, but a carefully planned move by the Magic.

NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed that the Magic have been trying to move Bol since the NBA Draft. The Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks have been interested in acquiring the 7’2 scorer.

“Had heard the Magic were looking at dealing Bol Bol dating back to the NBA Draft. Two teams mentioned were Phoenix and Dallas, but the Suns have flushed out their veteran minimum centers. Wonder if Bol could be in the Mavericks’ plans if Dallas can find a deal for JaVale McGee.”

The Suns have filled up their roster spots so far, so making room to sign Bol will be challenging. They did let go of forward Torrey Craig to the Bulls, so getting more offense off the bench wouldn’t be a bad get for their team. Bol has a sneaky inside-out game that he showed during last season, averaging 9.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks for the Magic.

Will The Mavericks Consider Bol?

The Mavericks have done very little business in the offseason so far. A team that needed to be overhauled with frontcourt addition has only re-signed Dwight Powell for those positions. Outside of that, they re-signed Kyrie Irving and added guards Seth Curry and Dante Exum. They could easily use Bol’s s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 set to add size to one of the worst rebounding and shot-blocking teams in the league.

Unfortunately, Bol would be a disastrous fit in the Mavs’ already poor defensive setup. They tend to switch on defense a lot, and Bol is a liability on the perimeter. He isn’t bulky enough to be their center either, so it’s likely there isn’t a s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁set match for the Mavs to be interested.

Teams like the Philadelphia 76ers or even the Golden State Warriors haven’t done much business so far this summer, but Bol could be a great bench addition for both squads looking to build out their depth.
