Black Mother-Daughter Duo Make History As They Graduate From Us Naval Academy In Annapolis

Mother, Timika Lindsay and Daughter, Elise Lindsay has broken the 177-year-old record of United States Naval Academy after emerging the first African-American mother and daughter duo to graduate from the academy.

Timika Lindsay is a retired Navy Captain who graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1992 and 31 years after, her daughter, Elise Lindsay followed in her footsteps. The mother and daughter both majored in General Science.

Capt. Timika Lindsay was one of the highest-ranking African American female captains, she served in the Navy for 30 years before she retired in 2021. She was the Naval Academy’s director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), creating numerous initiatives to improve diversity, equity and inclusion of the black community in the ranks.

After her retirement, she continued working in the DEI space by opening her own consulting firm, named Anchor Leadership Solutions.

“My family will tell you that I faked my retirement, and somehow secretly I’m still working for the Navy,” she joked.

She also mentioned that her family has a long history with the US Navy and Military since the World War 11. Describing their loyalty and love for the country as a deep one.

“We do believe what the Pledge of Allegiance says and what the Constitution says, that’s what we fight for,” Captain Timika explained.
