Nicolás, with my wife Sandra, made a tiny house in Patagonia, Argentina. He emailed me to share it with you and also the new blog he has started about tiny houses in Argentina. Here is their story and some pictures of the tiny house.
Right now with my family, we live half the year in Buenos Aires, in the east of the country. And the other half in the southwest of Argentina, in a town called San Martín de los Andes, in the province (state) of Neuquén.
She is dedicated to interior design. I am a journalist, specialized in technology.
I lived until the age of 20 in San Martín de los Andes, then I came to Buenos Aires to study at the University. But every year we used to go back to town, to ski in the winter and mountain bike in the summer.
We always had with Sandra the idea of having our own house in the south, so we would not have to rent or stay with friends. When our son Faustino was 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 (he is 11 years old today) that need became even more urgent.
We discovered the tiny house movement through the internet. Here it is still very incipient. So we started designing our tiny, with the idea of locating it in a space of land near my parents’ house.
It is a tiny on wheels. It is built with wooden frames and lined with OSB boards. It is 6.5 meters (21.3 feet) long and 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) wide. The bathroom and kitchen on one end. And on both, the loft with the bedroom. A typical tiny design. The standard model we could say. The outer covering is made of cement material siding. The floor is pine wood. Windows and doors are made of lenga wood.
It has a wood stove that is a little big for the size of the house, but here we don’t get a special one for small houses, as there are in the United States.
We are very happy with the result. The tiny was an excellent strategy to have our home without having to invest in the purchase of a piece of land. And at the same time, without compromising the family’s land.
Now with the Latinys blog, we try to infect other people to build their tiny. It is a novel concept even in Latin America.
