Last summer, Liverpool made inquiries regarding Kylian Mbappé of PSG.

According to a recent report from French outlet L’Équipe, Liverpool enquired about the availability of Kylian Mbappé last summer. The PSG forward, who signed a bumper contract with Les Parisiens a year ago, has reportedly decided not to trigger the one-year extension clause in his contract. As a result, the Frenchman will become a free agent in 2024.

Mbappé is believed to have grown frustrated with PSG transfer dealings last summer, which reportedly led Liverpool to make an approach for the player. However, L’Équipe suggests that the Reds would have faced a losing battle given the Frenchman’s monthly €6m wages, which are five times what Mohamed Salah earns after signing a new contract of his own last summer.

Despite the financial barriers, Liverpool is said to be a long-time admirer of Mbappé. However, the departure of several club executives may have changed the situation. The report also mentions that Liverpool’s arch-rivals, Manchester United, have enquired about Mbappé in the past.

It is unclear whether the Red Devils will make Mbappé their marquee signing if the Qatari-led consortium to acquire the club succeeds. Nevertheless, the prospect of Mbappé becoming a free agent in 2024 is sure to attract interest from a number of top clubs across Europe.

Mbappé, who is still only 24, is widely regarded as one of the best players in world football. He has already won numerous domesticand international titles with PSG and the French national team, including the 2018 World Cup. His pace, s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁, and finishing ability make him a formidable opponent for any defense, and his potential for further improvement has many clubs eager to secure his services.

If Liverpool or Manchester United were able to sign Mbappé, it would undoubtedly be a major coup for either team. The Frenchman would bring a new level of attacking firepower to their already impressive squads, and his arrival would likely have a significant impact on their respective league campaigns.

However, with Mbappé’s reported wages and transfer fee likely to be astronomical, it remains to be seen whether any club will be able to afford him. Nevertheless, the upcoming transfer window is sure to be an exciting time for football fans, with the possibility of Mbappé moving to a new club sure to generate plenty of attention and speculation.
