Zach LaVine remembers his basketball beginnings

Zach LaVine went everywhere to develop his basketball s𝓀ð’ū𝓁𝓁s.

The confidence and s𝓀ð’ū𝓁𝓁 level of Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine was not a result of sudden luck or some other overnight success. It came from a lot of hard work and limitless help from his family members, who drove him wherever it was necessary to go up against the best competition.

Such was the road that the high-leaping wingman had to take to go from balling in Bothell, Washington, to shining under the bright lights of the United Center.

Humble beginnings

The origins of LaVine’s incredible s𝓀ð’ū𝓁𝓁s did not begin on any outdoor court or even in a gym. According to an interview with Complex, his love affair with the game began in his home’s basement, where his dad put up a rim and a backboard. It was there that LaVine began appreciating basketball as a toddler. Soon enough, there was no looking back.

“I played everywhere, from local parks and rec centers to high school tournaments,” LaVine said. “On weekends, my mom, dad, and sister would drive around looking for different parks that had different nets and rim heights.”

Sports are crucial for youth development

LaVine added that his engagement with the game early on laid the foundation for his success in the NBA. And while not every young, aspiring athlete will go on to play in a professional setting, LaVine said what matters most is the opportunity to participate.

“Whenever you’re a young athlete, it’s good to learn how to compete in a team sport; It teaches leadership, toughness, and sportsmanship,” LaVine added.
