“RIP”: NBA Community Mourns 13YO Basketball Prodigy’s Tragic Death as Rockets Star’s Mom Pleads for Help

Basketball can be cruel sometimes. A 13-year-old boy who was hospitalized after sustaining a serious brain injury during a basketball game in March has died. Shama’ar Jefferson died earlier this month, after the young hooper sustained severe injuries during a tournament on March 30. Reportedly, the young boy said his head was hurting and he had blurry vision after playing in the first half of a basketball matchup. While he was hurting, according to news station reports, Jefferson passed a concussion test before collapsing later during the day. This is devastating news for NBA fans and more so for the Jefferson household.

It’s heartbreaking to hear that the young hooper from Wichita has passed away after a month-long battle. “He’s a spectacular kid and for this to happen, there’s no words to describe the things he’s going through. It just hurts me,” said Jefferson’s mom, Shaquela Cornwell. She stated that after collapsing, her son did not wake up ever again. No one can imagine the pain and suffering the 13-year-old’s mother must be going through other than a mother. That’s why when Houston Rockets’ star, Tari Eason’s mother heard about the sad news, she immediately urged people for help.

Tari Eason’s mother has joined the rest of the NBA faithful to extend her support for the basketball prodigy. “Twitter PLEASE help me find his mother and/or any funding for her. And I hope all basketball fans who see this give whatever they can. I hope light reaches the whole family in this tremendous loss. Heartbreaking!!!” Wrote Tari Eason’s mom, Teroya Eason, on X. She urged users to help her find the family of Shama’ar Jefferson. Moreover, she asked fans to help her find a fund to which she could donate whatever possible to help the 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥’s family in this difficult time.

A GoFundMe was started by Shama’ar’s parents to help with the expenses from medical costs. Till now, more than $18,000 has been raised for this noble cause, as Teroya Eason pleads with more NBA fans to contribute to the kid’s family. Meanwhile, she and the rest of the NBA community have come together in this difficult time for the Jeffersons, as they send their prayers and mourn the untimely death of the 14-year-old basketball star.

“R.I.P.”: NBA community mourns the death of Sham’ar Jefferson

For Sham’ar Jefferson’s parents, it must feel just like yesterday when their son went out to play basketball as usual. However, their entire world was turned upside down on 30th March when the 13-year-old suffered a brain bleed during a game. “Rest easy young man and prayers to the family,” a fan commented, sending his prayers to the young hooper and his family during this tough time. It’s news like this that brings the entire NBA community together and helps the victims find some light.

Meanwhile, another basketball faithful questioned why only innocents have to suffer. “So sad, why always the innocent person ones?” Indeed, it’s truly heartbreaking to hear that Sham’ar Jefferson, an innocent kid playing the sport he loved, passed away. Another fan shared a similar thought. “R.I.P young man damn I hate to see young people lose their lives.” He wrote. Well, seeing young kids full of life and potential leave the world is not something anyone would wish to see. One can only now imagine the heights young Sham’ar would’ve reached had the unfortunate injury not happened.

At the same time, one user wanted to know about how this unfortunate incident happened. “Did the Brain bleeding happen from contact that day or something he had before?” Well, there’s not much information about how the injury was sustained. Only reports of Sham’ar experiencing headaches and blurry visions have emerged so far. “My condolences to the Family,” is what a member of the NBA community wrote, extending their support to Jefferson’s family. May his soul rest in peace, as we send our prayers to Jefferson’s family during this difficult time.
