Rory McIlroy and his wife Erica Stoll will move into a new Surrey home after the US Open, with the Masters champ aiming to nab another victory at the US PGA Championship beforehand.
After a triumphant moment in April when he secured his first-ever green jacket at Augusta National, beating Justin Rose in a nailbiting play-off to notch up an extraordinary career Grand Slam, McIlroy’s eyes are now on dominating the US PGA at Quail Hollow – a course where he’s had prior success.
Meanwhile, off the fairways, the Holywood favourite and his family are prepping for their own housewarming. A dazzling new-build in Surrey, a stone’s throw from London, is all set for the McIlroys’ arrival.
The family currently soaks up the sun in Jupiter, Florida, where McIlroy scooped up a mansion back in 2017 from fellow golfer Ernie Els, within the plush confines of Bear’s Club golf community.
However, his better half, who saw a divorce filed against her in 2024 before differences were put aside, has made it clear that the Floridian heat is not her cup of tea. It now appears that her wish to spend more time back in the cooler UK has been granted, reports the Mirror US.
On the Netflix docuseries Full Swing, McIlroy touched upon the subject while chatting with German pro Martin Kaymer. Kaymer shared the anecdote: “I saw her [Stoll] at a Starbucks once, and she said, ‘I really don’t like the sun.’ I said, ‘Your state’s called the Sunshine State, right?'”
The Northern Irish golfer continued: “If it was up to her [Stoll], she wouldn’t move to England straightaway, but she definitely wants to spend more time there.”
Hints of a UK home also emerged after McIlroy’s nail-biting win at the Players Championship, where his playoff rival J. J. Spaun inadvertently mentioned that McIlroy was setting up a new pad in England.

Chatting on the Fore Play podcast about their interactions during the TPC Sawgrass showdown, Spaun shared: “He’s super cool. We were talking about the UK.
“I know he’s Northern Irish, but I asked him if he ever hangs out in London. Because my wife has got a really good friend that lives out there and loves going there. He said, ‘Oh yeah, I’m building a house out there.'”
The Telegraph has now confirmed that McIlroy is indeed establishing roots in Wentworth, Surrey, with a residence ready for him, his wife Stoll, and their daughter Poppy to move into after the US Open in June.
“Straight after Augusta, we travelled over to see the house as it was going through the finishing touches,” McIlroy expressed excitement to the Telegraph. “It was fun to see and we could have stayed in it, but we wanted to get over to Holywood.”
While Florida will continue to be the family’s main hub when McIlroy competes on the PGA Tour, there’s speculation that they might eventually make a full-time move to England.
As reported by the Sun, the newly erected property, nestled near the renowned Wentworth Golf Club, is said to have cost between £10million and £14m to build. It is also said to feature a sprawling 44-foot-long party and entertainment room, along with indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
