Sadly, many of the talented actors who brought these characters to life have passed away over the years. In a recent tribute, we remember 28 actors from the series, reflecting on their iconic roles and the legacies they left behind.

Among the notable names is Linda Baron, who played the strong-willed nurse Gladys Emanuel. Born on March 24, 1939, Baron portrayed Gladys in 1976, capturing audiences with her independent spirit. She passed away on March 5, 2022, at the age of 82. Another fan favorite, Kathy Staff, known for her role as the formidable Mrs. Blithe, died on December 13, 2018, at 80 after a battle with a brain tumor.

Ronnie Barker, who embodied the miserly yet endearing shopkeeper Albert Arkwright, passed away on October 3, 2005, at 76 due to heart failure. His antics provided much of the show’s humor. Teddy Turner, who played Gordon Stackpole, and James Emrys, who portrayed Eli Bickerdike, also contributed to the series’ charm before their deaths in the early ’90s and late ’80s, respectively.

John Challis, known for his minor role as the Bread Man, gained fame as Boise in “Only Fools and Horses” before his passing in September 2021 at 79. Other actors like Alan Starky, Janet Davies, and Joe Belcher played vital supporting roles, enriching the show’s comedic essence.

Elizabeth Dawn, renowned for her portrayal of Vera Duckworth in “Coronation Street,” was among those who left a lasting impact, passing away in September 2017. The legacy of these actors continues to resonate, reminding fans of the joy and laughter they brought into homes across the nation.

As we reflect on these beloved figures, their contributions to “Open All Hours” and the broader landscape of British television remain a testament to their talent and enduring influence. Their memorable performances will forever be cherished by audiences, ensuring that their spirits live on in the hearts of fans.
