Are You Being Served (1972) Cast THEN AND NOW 2025, Who Else Survives After 53 Years?

“Are You Being Served?” remains a cherished staple of British television, known for its sharp wit and memorable characters since its debut in 1972. As the beloved sitcom approaches its 53rd anniversary, fans reflect on the legacy left by its talented cast, many of whom have since passed away.

Wendy Richard, who portrayed the charming Miss Brahms, brought youthful energy to the ladies’ department before her passing from breast cancer in 2009 at the age of 65. Similarly, John Inman, who became iconic as the flamboyant Mr. Humphries, died in 2007 at 71 due to complications from hepatitis.

Trevor Bannister, remembered for his role as the cheeky Mr. Lucas, entertained audiences until his death in 2011 at the age of 76. Molly Sugden, who played the sharp-witted Mrs. Slocombe, captivated viewers with her comedic timing until her passing from natural causes in 2009 at 86.

The series also featured Frank Thornton as Captain Peacock, whose authoritative yet humorous presence left a lasting mark on the show. He passed away in 2013 at 92. Nicholas Smith, who portrayed the bumbling Mr. Rumbold, died in 2015, and Alfie Bass, known for Mr. Goldberg, passed away in 1987.

Even minor characters contributed significantly to the sitcom’s charm. James Hater, who played Mr. T.B. S., and Arthur English as Mr. Harman both added their unique flair, with Hater passing in 1983 and English in 1995.

As fans celebrate the series’ enduring impact, they remember the legacy of these talented actors. Their contributions have solidified “Are You Being Served?” as a cornerstone of British comedy, leaving behind a rich tapestry of humor that continues to resonate with audiences today.
