Travis Hunter is heavily criticized for making a bold comparison that places him above Shohei Ohtani

The Colorado Buffaloes star got into trouble for a controversial opinion that was taken as a snub to the Dodgers player’s two-way work.

One of the stars of college football who is set to shine in the NFL is Travis Hunter, a two-way player who plays cornerback on defense and wide receiver on offense, and who last week got into a controversy after being asked if playing in two positions was a greater challenge than what Japanese star Shohei Ohtani does for the Los Angeles Dodgers, as a designated hitter and pitcher.

“Probably for me, what I do in football [is harder] because it involves a lot of physical effort,” Hunter confidently replied during the NFL Scouting Combine press conference and added: “Ohtani is a great player, but in football you have to do a lot.”

The Colorado Buffaloes phenomenon did not hold back with his bold response and set social media alight, as well as being the talk of sports shows, where veteran former New York Mets pitcher Trevor May joined the fray

“I’m sorry, Travis, I understand what you mean, but no,” said Trevor May on MLB Radio, adding a forceful comment in which he leaves no doubt about his verdict: “Being as good as Ohtani in both ways is the most impressive thing that has ever existed in the sport.”

Shohei Ohtani and Travis Hunter shine in two positions

Ohtani comes off a magical season with the Dodgers in which he was only able to play on offense, allowing him to inaugurate the 50-50 club, as the first player to record more than 50 home runs (54) and stolen bases (59) in a season, and is expected to return to the mound in 2025 from May, when he finishes rehabilitation after shoulder surgery.

On the other hand, Hunter will have to choose the position in which he will play in the NFL, although in the NFL Scouting Combine he only played as a defensive back, while his offensive numbers with the Buffaloes last season were spectacular, with 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s that allowed him to win the Heisman Trophy, which places him as one of the jewels of the next NFL Draft, and two options for the team that selects a player destined to be a star.
