In his first season after leaving the Los Angeles Angels, two-way star Shohei Ohtani made MLB history, inventing the 50/50 club en route to a World Series championship with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Becoming the first player ever with 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in the same season, Ohtani won the 2024 National League MVP award unanimously.
While Ohtani’s first season with the Dodgers was already historic, it only showcased half of his game. Serving exclusively as LA’s designated hitter, Ohtani has yet to pitch for his new team, but that is expected to happen this season.
With a career 3.01 ERA in 86 starts (all with the Angels), Ohtani is among MLB’s best starting pitchers when healthy.

On Monday, Ohtani announced in a joint Instagram post with Fanatics that the 17th of every month is now known as Ohtani Day.
“Set your alarms: Ohtani Day is coming to bring fans an epic, never-before-seen memorabilia experience,” Ohtani and Fanatics announced. “Beginning today, and on the 17th of every month, a new set of ultra-rare, exclusive items will be released for fans to add to their collection. Who’s grabbing a piece of history?”
