Young Lady who gave 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 to a son at high school defies odds to graduate early, earns acceptance to US university

A young Lady who gave 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 to a son at high school defies odds to graduate early, earns acceptance to US university.

Darreonna Ford, a determined young lady from Laurens County, has achieved an incredible milestone by graduating a year early from Moore Street School in Dublin, United States.

Despite the challenges of becoming a mother during high school, Ford persevered and turned her obstacles into motivation for success. Ford discovered she was pregnant at the beginning of her senior year but remained resolute in her commitment to her education.

With the support of her school faculty, she was given the opportunity to attend afternoon and evening classes during her penultimate semester, enabling her to graduate a semester early.

“When she knew she was carrying life inside her, all the decisions she made from that point forward couldn’t just be selfish decisions for her; she had to make decisions for her un𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦, and she did just that. That inspired me to my core,” Moore Street School Principal Katina Puckett said.

Expressing her gratitude, Ford acknowledged her mother, teachers, and school staff for their unwavering support throughout her journey. “ “I did come in my senior year pregnant, but I did finish it out,” she said. “I finished early, so I know if I did it, I know y’all can do it too,” she said.

Ford’s pregnancy became a turning point in her life, transforming her from a self-described “trouble kid” into someone who now seeks to inspire others. She credited her son, Khalil, as her greatest motivation.

Notably, Khalil was the first 𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑦 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 in Laurens County in 2023, making his arrival even more special.

Instead of dropping out and opting for a GED, Ford pushed through the difficulties with the encouragement of her teachers. Reflecting on her journey, she shared that her experience not only strengthened her determination but also inspired her to pursue a career in medicine.

Looking ahead, Ford plans to continue her education at Oconee Fall Line Technical College in Sandersville, where she will study medicine. Her passion for healthcare stems from the transformative journey she experienced during her pregnancy.
