Nigerian man went from scoring 0 in his first test in OAU to earning a 4.63 first-class degree in Civil Engineering, celebrates exceptional success.

A young Nigerian man named Omoboriowo Samson Loye, has achieved an extraordinary milestone, graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) with a First-Class degree in Civil Engineering and an impressive CGPA of 4.63.

He said in an interview with Legit NG that his academic journey, marked by trials and triumphs, is a testament to resilience, hard work, and perseverance.

Loye’s journey began with a humbling experience: scoring zero in his first mid-semester test at OAU. The multiple-choice Chemistry exam required students to shade a specific paper type—an oversight on his part led to a score of zero out of forty.

The setback left him with a heavy heart, and he admitted to feeling depressed throughout the semester. However, it became a turning point. Loye drafted a plan to maximize his performance in the remaining 60 marks of the course’s final exam.

His hard work paid off, earning him a C in the course and setting the stage for his comeback.

Loye faced further challenges, including a B grade in his Industrial Training (IT) course during his fourth year, a critical 9-unit course that significantly impacted his CGPA.

Describing the experience, he said, “It was a bitter experience for me, but I endured, stayed consistent, and ensured I finished strong.” In his final year, Loye achieved a perfect grade point average, boosting his CGPA to its maximum potential.

Loye attributed his success to methodical planning, disciplined study habits, and a supportive network of like-minded peers. He started his studies early in the semester, regularly attended classes, actively participated, and engaged in group study sessions.

Seeking help when needed and surrounding himself with positive influences also played crucial roles in his academic journey.

Loye’s remarkable achievements have opened numerous doors. He has participated in mentorship programs, attended boot camp training, and attracted research invitations from professors.

He plans to further his education and research in transportation systems, with aspirations to become a consultant in transportation policy and a professor of transportation engineering.
