Call me by my name: Anne Hathaway, 38, told Jimmy Fallon on an episode of The Tonight Show that she wants to be called ‘Annie’ moving forward, as she begged, ‘Everybody, call me Annie, please!’

‘Can we talk about my name for a second?,’ she asked Fallon after he introduced her as Anne, before inquiring about her name.

Referring back to her first commercial at the age of 14 where she was asked what name she wanted on her Screen Actors Guild card,  she opted to go with her 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 name, not realizing it would follow her for the rest of her life.

‘The only person that ever calls me Anne is my mother and she only does it when she’s really mad at me, like really mad,’ she said.

‘So every time I step out in public and someone calls my name, I think they’re going to yell at me,’ she confessed.

High alert: ‘Every time I step out in public and someone calls my name, I think they’re going to yell at me,’ she confessed

‘People are like Anne, and I’m like “what, what did I do?”, so please seriously, just feel free,’ she said.

‘The truth is nobody’s comfortable calling me Anne, ever, it doesn’t fit I’m an Annie, and so people call me like Ms H and Hath [on set]…so feel free call me anything but Anne,’ she pleaded.

Getting the memo, Fallon referred to the Princess Diaries actress as Annie, for the remainder of the virtual interview.

That’s the tea: Hoping to set the record straight on her name to the public she ushered one last plea, ‘feel free call me anything but Anne’

Hathaway and Fallon went on to talk about her home life as she is the mother of a four-year-old Jonathan and a one-year-old Jack with husband of nine years Adam Shulman.

Her new movie Locked Down – which premieres January 14 on HBO Max – is a quarantine heist thriller about a long term relationship that has run its course.

The plot transpires when the duo are forced be hunkered down together in quarantine for 14 days after a co-worker experiences symptoms, and the couple decide to steal a 3M pound diamond from a mass murderer.
