Anne Hathaway reveals she’s been ‘choosier’ about her roles since having sons Jonathan, 6, and Jack, 2: ‘They’re so precious to me’

Anne Hathaway is a mother of two and a world-renowned actress, and she revealed the former aspect of her life has certainly influenced the latter.

The 39-year-old Hathaway shares two sons – six-year-old Jonathan and two-year-old Jack – with her husband of a decade, Adam Shulman.

While discussing her new role in the upcoming drama Armageddon Time, arriving in theaters November 4, she opened up about how having kids has made her ‘choosier’ in picking what roles to pursue.

‘I have to say, the ‘kids’ thing has been the biggest shift,’ Hathaway explained in an interview with Sirius XM’s Jess Cagle.

‘That’s kind of re-prioritized everything, so it’s actually made me a bit choosier because something really has to be so excellent to spend time away from them because they’re so precious to me,’ she added.

‘They’re the most sacred part of my life by a long shot. And then when I do accept something, it puts greater pressure on me to make it worth the time that I’ve spent away from them,’ Hathaway continued.

Shift: ‘I have to say, the ‘kids’ thing has been the biggest shift,’ Hathaway explained in an interview with Sirius XM ‘s Jess Cagle

‘I’ve always felt a big responsibility – with mixed results – to the audience that was going to see the project that I was gonna work on because I take it very, very seriously,’ she added.

‘People work so hard for their money and the idea that I’m asking you for your time and your money to like do this thing that I love to do, it has to be worth it, it really does,’ Hathaway added.

She added another element of her becoming more ‘choosy’ is, ‘I want to be the best actor that I can. I never want to stop learning. So that means I want to work on as many different types of movies and play as many different types of roles as I can.’

Responsibility: ‘I’ve always felt a big responsibility – with mixed results – to the audience that was going to see the project that I was gonna work on because I take it very, very seriously,’ she added

‘For me, the most crucial part of that approach is I have to work with the best directors who will have me. I have to do that. It’s the only way I’m going to learn because it can’t just be about my experience of the part, it has to be about someone who – just by working with them – they’re gonna make me a better artist,’ she said.

She added that Armageddon Time director James Gray, ‘checked all those boxes’ for her, adding she was excited there was an, ‘age-appropriate role in a James Gray film.’

She was also asked which of her own movies she’s most excited to show her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren when they get older.

‘I am really excited to show them The Devil Wears Prada. It’s such a good movie,’ she said.

‘And I say that, you know, with complete humility, I’m a small part in that film,’ she continued.

‘It’s David Frankel, our director. It’s Meryl Streep. I mean, you know, Stanley [Tucci], Emily [Blunt], everyone ― Patricia Field,’ she added.
