LeBron James’ high school basketball jersey sells for $1.3m at star-studded auction

A basketball jersey worn by a high-school-aged LeBron James has reportedly broken records after being sold at auction.

The jersey was sold at an auction dubbed ‘Legends in Motion’ by Julien’s Auctions – which also featured items from other sports stars like Michael JordanCristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, as well as Taylor Swift and Bruce Lee.

But at the auction, James’ jersey pulled in the most cash – being sold for a staggering $1.3million (£970,000).

According to What’s The Jam, James wore the garment during his first photo shoot with Sports Illustrated back in 2002 for a piece written by the late Grant Wahl.

After the shoot, LeBron James – who is about to enter his 22nd season alongside son Bronny James – wore the jersey in a high-school game for St. Vincent-St. Mary High School against Akron rivals Archbishop Hoban.

The gold-colored jersey was worn by James in 2002 for a photoshoot and in a game afterwards

Also sold at the auction was this basketball signed by Michael Jordan that he used in a music video for the Michael Jackson song ‘Jam’

Cristiano Ronaldo’s jersey from the 2018 UEFA Champions League Final was also sold

A set of nunchaku used by Bruce Lee in the film ‘Enter the Dragon’ also was up for sale

This fedora worn by Taylor Swift during her Eras Tour (and signed by her) was sold for $22k

As for the rest of the auction, a basketball signed by Michael Jordan that was used in the music video for ‘Jam’. That video featured the NBA legend alongside Michael Jackson and the ball is signed ‘Best Wishes’ in black marker.

Cristiano Ronaldo had his jersey from the 2018 UEFA Champions League final hammered for $7,620.

Meanwhile, Messi’s jersey from the 2022 World Cup contest between Argentina and Poland was sold for $2,275.

Away from the world of sports, a pair of nunchaku used by Bruce Lee in the cave fight scene of the 1973 film ‘Enter the Dragon’ was sold for $190,500.

Additionally, a signed fedora worn by Taylor Swift during her 2023 leg of the Eras Tour was sold for $22,750.

This particular hat was worn during her song ’22’ from her fourth studio album, Red.
