Actor Tyrese Gibson was arrested in court on the morning of September 9 for failing to pay 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 support to his ex-wife, according to a judge’s order.
According to TMZ , during a trial in Fulton County, Georgia, Judge Kevin Farmer was furious because Tyrese Gibson refused to pay $10,000 per month as ordered in April 2023. For contempt of court, Tyrese Gibson was handcuffed and taken out of the courtroom.
The judge said the Hollywood star could avoid jail time if he paid $73,000 to his ex-wife, Samantha Lee, including $7,500 in attorney fees. Tyrese Gibson is reportedly working on a settlement.
Later that evening, Tyrese was released from prison after his attorney filed an appeal against the judge’s ruling.
Last weekend, Tyrese Gibson wrote on Instagram (a now-deleted post) that his ex-wife’s attorney was colluding with the judge and could have him arrested during a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 support hearing. “Obviously they hate my guts, but gotta remind them I’ve worked hard since I was 14 to get to where I am today,” he wrote.
Tyrese has pleaded not guilty and explained that he had a prenuptial agreement that settled the financial issues of their divorce four years ago. He accused his ex-wife of trying to extort money from him because of his successful acting career.
As of last year, Tyrese was paying Samantha Lee about $2,200 a month for 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 support, the source said.
Tyrese Gibson and Samantha Lee married in 2017 and welcomed daughter Soraya in October 2018. They divorced two years later. The Fast & Furious star is also the father of daughter Shayla, 17, with his ex-wife Norma Mitchell. In May, Mitchell filed a lawsuit against Tyrese for defamation and posting private information about her and her teenage daughter Shayla on social media.
