Taylor Swift has raised her career VMA total to 30, tying her with hip-hop artist Beyonce.

On September 11 (local time), at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), pop star Taylor Swift took home 7 trophies, equaling Beyonce in the number of lifetime awards in the 40-year history of the VMA.

Swift won the top award, video of the year, for her video for “Fortnight,” which also featured Post Malone.

Swift also thanked fans for voting for the VMAs and urged them to vote in the upcoming US presidential election. Earlier, on September 10, the singer voiced her support for Democrat Kamala Harris in an Instagram post.

Swift has now won 30 VMA awards in her career, tying her with hip-hop artist Beyonce. Swift’s other awards include Artist of the Year and Song of the Summer.

The video of the year award is Swift’s third consecutive win, following the extended version of “All Too Well” in 2022 and “Anti-Hero” in 2023, and her fifth overall, a record for an artist.

The VMAs began airing on MTV in 1984 and became famous for memorable moments like the on-stage kiss between Madonna and Britney Spears, or the raw meat dress Lady Gaga once wore on the red carpet.

At this year’s awards ceremony, Chappell Roan, the owner of the song “Good Luck, Babe”, was named best new artist. Blackpink’s youngest member Lisa won the award for best K-pop video with her solo hit “Rockstar”. South African artist Tyla won the Afrobeats award for “Water” and Brazilian singer Anitta won the award for best Latin video for “Mil Veces”.

Rapper Eminem opened the awards show with his song “Houdini” from his album “The Death of Slim Shady.” Katy Perry, who received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, sang hits ranging from “Teenage Dream” to “Firework.” Katy Perry’s husband, actor Orlando Bloom, presented her with the trophy.
