The first trailer for Smile 2 has been released, revealing as Naomi Scott fights for her life in the sequel to the $217 million box office horror hit. The budding Smile franchise takes place in a world where a curse from a supernatural monster causes people to slowly lose their sanity, eventually taking their own life in front of someone while smiling to pass on the virus-like entity. The original Smile ended with Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) lighting herself on fire in front of Joel (Kyle Gallner), passing the curse of the Smile monster onto him.
Now, Paramount has released a new trailer for Smile 2, revealing Scott’s pop star Skye Riley fighting for her life after she ends up with the curse. After seeing her friend (Lukas Gage) take his life in front of her, the trailer depicts her slowly being driven mad as more smiling faces and disturbing events unfold. However, a researcher of the curse reaches out to help her, cryptically saying she needs to die in order for the curse to be broken.
After his revelation, Skye can be seen in a hospital gown about to inject herself with something before more creepy scenes of smiling fans are shown. However, the movie also promises plenty of high-octane scenes as well, including a bunch of smiling fans chasing her down a hallway, as well as a car crash in the dead of night. The trailer ends with her smiling friend who died stretching her lips into a smile. Check out the full trailer for Smile 2 below:
What The Newest Smile 2 Trailer Reveals About The Movie
With the release of Smile 2 coming in October, the trailer reiterates the setup of the original, with Skye witnessing someone’s death and being haunted by the smiling entity as it torments her in a variety of ways. While the original movie used the curse as a symbol for trauma, the addition of a Smile curse researcher in this new movie indicates a deeper exploration of the lore surrounding the monster. This may even tie into what happened to Joel in the original movie, as it was previously confirmed Kyle Gallner will be reprising his role in the forthcoming sequel.
The trailer also features Gage’s character haunting Skye at various points, implying he’ll be in the movie for quite some time as she spirals because of the curse. This could be what leads her to the seedy, hospital-like location the researcher takes her to, perhaps trying to make her medically dead temporarily in an attempt to beat the curse. Whether this works or not, though, is unclear, and could instead reveal more about how the curse can’t be stopped through such risky means.
