Emma Stone set for reunion with fantasy comedy remake

Emma Stone is set to reunite with Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos for a remake of the South Korean fantasy comedy Save the Green Planet.

According to Variety, Stone is in talks to join Lanthimos on the remake, which is expected to start shooting in the summer in New York and the UK.

The project has reportedly been in the works for several years and the original movie’s director Jang Joon-hwan was initially attached to helm the English-language remake, which is based on a screenplay by The Menu’s Will Tracy.

This would mark the sixth time Stone and Lanthimos have collaborated. They previously worked together on The Favourite and the upcoming anthology movie Kinds of Kindness, which is set for release later this year.

Save the Green Planet tells the story of a disillusioned young man who kidnaps and tortures a businessman, believing he is involved in an alien invasion.

Following the capture, a battle of wits begins between the young man, his girlfriend, the businessman and a private detective.

Lanthimos will also reunite with Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe for a sixth time. They are set to produce the movie along with Ari Aster’s Square Peg and CJ ENM (formerly CJ Entertainment).

Previously speaking about working with Stone, who won a BAFTA for her role in Poor Things, Lanthimos said it was important that Stone had “no shame” when filming the 𝓈ℯ𝓍 scenes.

He added: “The great thing about me and Emma is that we have made four films together; there is a shorthand and we can communicate without having to explain or talk too much about things. As soon as I started saying something about 𝓈ℯ𝓍, she would say: ‘yes’, of course, it’s Bella. We will do what we need to do.”
