Tiger Woods’s former coach Hank Haney recently expressed his opinion about 3-Woods. He said that the modern 3-woods don’t really work for the majority of golfers today.
Haney was responding to a Twitter user who asked the golf coach to help him convince his 68-year-old father to trade his Titleist 3W for a 7W and add a 9W as he was struggling with the 3W.
Haney quoted the tweet and posted:
“Most of today’s 3-woods are virtually unhittable for 90% of the people who play golf, tell him I said to listen to you because you gave him good advice.”
In a different post, another Twitter user asked Haney for suggestions in order to be more consistent with the long irons. The 68-year-old golf coach backed hybrids and wrote:
“Using hybrids is the best way.”
Hank Haney coached Tiger Woods for six years from 2004 to 2010. Woods had a great run with Haney as he won six of 15 Majors and 31 of 82 PGA Tour titles while working with him.
When will Tiger Woods play next this year?
Tiger Woods recently played at The Open Championship 2024. He failed to make the cut at the Major. It was his third consecutive missed cut at a Major. Woods scored rounds of 79 and 77 to finish with an aggregate score of 14-over 156.
Fans are now curious to know about the next tournament Woods will tee off at. The question has been answered by the author of Tiger Woods’ book and Sports Illustrated writer Bob Harig. Harig posted on X:
“Tiger said he will not play again before the Hero in the Bahamas and then the ‘fifth Major, the PNC.'”
So, Tiger Woods won’t be seen on the golf course till the 2024 Hero World Challenge in December. The tournament will be played at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas from December 5 to 8. Soon after, he’ll play in the PNC Championship with his son Charlier Woods in Orlando, Florida. The tournament is scheduled from December 19 to 22.
Meanwhile, PGA Tour veteran Brendon de Jonge predicted that Woods will play ‘double-digit’ events next year. He said (via SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio):
“Everything I’ve heard from Tiger this week lends me to believe that we’re gonna see Tiger play. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s in double-digit tournaments next year, maybe 10, maybe 12 events. I think he’s feeling strong enough right now with the health in his right leg that we’re gonna see a ton more of Tiger Woods next year.”
So, far this year, Tiger Woods has played five tournaments with four of them being Majors. He withdrew from the Genesis Invitational because of illness in the middle of the second round. He scored his highest score of 16-over at Augusta National at the Masters. He failed to make the cut in the next three Majors.
