According to insiders, Beyoncé and Jay-Z just purchased a home that would crush any design enthusiast’s spirit given its high price, expansive layout, and top-notch architecture.
The couple reportedly paid $200 M for the expansive estate, which was created by Pritzker Award-winning architect Tadao Ando and is situated amidst the starry cliffs of Malibu, California.
Although the building wasn’t finished until 2014, the 30,000 square foot complex, which consists of a series of low-slung concrete and glass volumes (Ando’s signature material), was originally designed for renowned art collector and Jeff Koons fan William Bell, who purchased the property in 2003, according to the Los Angeles Times. This home was constructed by award-winning architect (and student) Kulapat Yantrasast, who owns the WHY firm in New York and Los Angeles. Ando is also the architect behind Kanye West’s Malibu beach house.
In addition to being the most expensive property ever bo ught in California history, this house is also the second most expensive property ever sold in the country; the most expensive property in the country is a $238 M penthouse in Manhattan that was sold in 2019. In addition, Beyoncé and Jay-Z possess a $88 M estate in Bel Air, though it’s unclear if they plan to keep this equally contemporary residence.
