Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of golf icon Tiger Woods, continues in his quest to follow in his father’s footsteps, but he recently missed making the cut for a junior golf tournament.

On Tuesday, July 23, Woods missed the cut for the U.S. Junior Amateur by 18 strokes after he carded a 10-over 80 in the second round after posting a 12-over 82 the day prior, according to the Associated Press and USA Today.

The tournament is familiar territory for the elder Woods. Tiger — who watched his son compete this week — is the only three-time champion of the U.S. Junior Amateur, winning at ages 15, 16 and 17, per USA Today.

In June, Charlie qualified for his very first USGA Championship. He told reporters at the time he hopes to one day win the U.S. Open after he works his way onto the PGA Tour.

“The USGA means a lot to me,” he said. “I want to win USGA Championships and hopefully one day the U.S. Open.”

The teenager shot a 1-under par on a 71-par course at the Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla., earning his first amateur tournament spot.

Charlie has been competing on the golf course more frequently this year as he begins to find his footing in the sport his father, 48, has dominated and defined over much of the last three decades.
