Even though Amy Robach has a “promise” ring around her neck, she claims that she and T.J. Holmes are “on the fence” about getting married.

“I wanna marry you. I don’t need to. I want to be married to you,” said Holmes

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes are “on the fence” about marriage.

Months after making their red carpet debut at iHeartRadio’s annual Jingle Ball in Los Angeles, the couple discussed if they would ever say “I do.”

“I wanna marry you. I don’t need to. I want to be married to you. And that’s such a different thing as we sit here and talk about engagement rings and joint accounts,” said Holmes on the latest episode of their Amy and T.J. Podcast.

Robach, 51, pointed out that marriage is something both she and Holmes, 46, have already experienced long before dating another.

She and her first husband, Tim McIntosh, were married from 1996 to 2009 and share daughters, Ava and Annalise. Robach tied the knot with Andrew Shue in 2010 and separated in August 2022. Their divorce was finalized in March, per Page Six.

In December 2022, Holmes filed for divorce from Marilee Fiebig following 12 years of marriage and with whom he shares a daughter named Sabine. He and Fiebig settled their divorce in October 2023. The former television personality is also a dad to daughter Brianna and son Jaiden from his previous marriage to Amy Ferson.

“I mean, it’s interesting having gone through this now, both of us twice,” said Robach on the podcast. “And, I know that can be joke material, but I actually think it’s been such hard-earned, God, I mean, just I’ve learned so much through going through both of those relationships and now being, in this one with you.”

Robach said she believes “we all get caught up in the traditions and in the expectations and in what we think we’re supposed to do or what looks like the next thing to do.”

“Interestingly, now, with the choice totally in front of us to get married or not for us, we’re kind of on the fence and laughing about it because it doesn’t matter because we know we want to be with each other. We want to marry each other,” she continued. “We don’t have to necessarily get married because of what that represents. It’s almost for everyone else and not for you.”

Robach explained the two have been watching shows where couples are “swept up” with the idea of marriage.

“In these shows, they say, ‘Oh, man. This isn’t what I thought it was gonna be. This isn’t what I signed up for’ because it the focus hasn’t been on the person,” said Robach noting that “we’ve all been there.”

“I get the excitement of all of that and the ring and the and the wedding dress and the all of that. But at the end of the day it’s about the relationship and most importantly it’s about the communication,” she said.
