A young man named KaHlomasambe Masango who worked as a gateman to pay his school fees has finally bagged a degree in Education with 17 distinctions from the University of South Africa.
KaHlomasambe Masango is a South African native who worked as a security guard while studying at the University of South Africa. Despite working at the same time studying, he graduated with distinctions.
Masango said he relocated to Johannesburg in 2011 after graduating from college with a database administration diploma to find greener pastures. He ended up working as a plumber in a construction site.
However, Masango lost the job and had to opt for another job. He said he go a job to work as a security guard in a pharmacy. He added that it was while working as a security guard he applied to the University of South Africa and was accepted.
Masango said he was able to survive at the university with the help of the National Student Financial Aid loan student offered at South African Universities. He stated that it was not easy juggling academics together with his studies but was able to survive with determination.
Masango has now obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Education and graduated with 17 distinctions in 40 modules passing all in his first attempt. Masango said he did not leave his job despite being overqualified.
After graduation, Masango said though he was working as security, he still made an effort to apply for jobs. He mentioned that he registered with the Gauteng unemployed educators database online.
A few months after he registered with the Gauteng unemployed educators, he was called for his first-ever interview as an Educator and was immediately accepted.
Masango is now an Educator, teaching primary school students in Gauteng, South Africa.
