22-year-old Chelsea player now likely to start against Tottenham tonight

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino looks set to make at least one change tonight when his side travel to Tottenham Hotspur.

Noni Madueke started in the 2-0 defeat to Brentford, but it now appears that he could drop back down to the bench for the game against Ange Postecoglou’s men.

According to the Evening Standard, Mykhailo Mudryk is likely to come back into the side at the expense of Madueke after returning to full fitness.

Mudryk has not played since the 2-2 draw with Arsenal, in which he scored in.

However, the 22-year-old now looks set to return to Pochettino’s starting XI for Chelsea’s latest London derby.

Should Mykhailo Mudryk start over Noni Madueke?

Honestly, Madueke was not too bad in the loss to Brentford. According to WhoScored, the England U21 international made two key passes on the day, with only Cole Palmer (four) making more.

Still, before his injury, Mudryk was starting to look like a real threat, while his pace could be very useful if Chelsea find themselves having to play on the counter-attack tonight.

Ultimately, if the Ukraine international is fit enough to start, which does seem to the be case, then we think he should.

Madueke, who cost Chelsea £30m in January (BBC Sport), can be an option Pochettino brings off the bench if he needs to do something different.

Whoever starts out wide tonight, they need be clinical, something that we have just not seen from Chelsea’s forwards this season.

It is why the club currently find themselves 13th in the table, though they can change that with a win tonight.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara does not think they will, but hopefully Chelsea can pull off what would probably be deemed as an upset by some given the contrasting form of the two London rivals this season.
