Liverpool are optimisic they can complete an incredible deal for Kylian Mbappe next summer, according to a stunning report, with the player set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
Mbappe’s future at PSG has looked increasingly uncertain after being heavily linked with an exit from the Parisens this summer. Al-Hilal made a world record bid of £257million for the French forward while Real Madrid was also a rumoured destination.
The former World Cup winner was even banished to play with PSG’s B-team as a feud between himself and the club developed, but for now he is back in the first team picture under boss Luis Enrique.
It is still unclear whether he will sign a contract extension before the season’s end, though the player and the club have maintained ‘peaceful relations’ since being reinstated in August and the possibility of an extension ‘is not being ruled out’, according to L’Equipe.
However, the report adds that Liverpool are holding out hope they can capitalise on the uncertainty around Mbappe’s future, saying they have ‘never broken contact with the player’s entourage’ since a failed move for him in 2017.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool still hold out hope they can complete a stunning deal for Kylian Mbappe (R) next summer
That came before his £200m move to PSG from Monaco, when Jurgen Klopp is said to have held talks with Mbappe before he opted to move to the French capital.
Liverpool have always believed they could sign Mbappe one day since those negotiations – with the Reds constantly linked to the Frenchman in recent seasons.
L’Equipe add that it would be a ‘surprise’ to see Mbappe at Anfield next season but add that the complexion could change by next summer.
The report adds that Mbappe will ‘carefully consider all options’ before making his decision – and that Real Madrid will be one of the favourites to land his signature.
Mbappe’s future is still unclear with 12 months remaining on his contract in the French capital
The former World Cup winner came third behind Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland at the Ballon d’Or ceremony
Liverpool have had a solid start to the season with 23 points from their first ten games and some sparkling performances from their forwards Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo – but having a superstar like Mbappe in their arsenal would take the team to the next level.
It comes after Mbappe finished third at the Ballon d’Or ceremony behind Man City’s Erling Haaland and Lionel Messi.
Supporters compared him to a ‘bored dad at a recital’ as he was pictured ‘slow clapping’ Haaland as he made his way to the stage.
The pair look to follow Ronaldo and Messi as the next big rivalry in the race for future Ballon d’Or awards.
