‘Done really well’: Paul Merson has been very impressed by £40m Chelsea player in recent weeks

Paul Merson has heaped praise on Chelsea star Cole Palmer for his recent performances.

Cole Palmer has been a shining light for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in their last few fixtures, scoring in consecutive games against Burnley and Arsenal.

Paul Merson has now hailed the attacker for his displays in his column for Sportskeeda.

Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City in a £40m deal, as reported by Sky Sports, and the 21-year-old says he is loving life at Stamford Bridge at the moment.

Paul Merson praises Cole Palmer

In Palmer, Merson thinks Chelsea have a player for now and the future and has highlighted his ability to unlock defences.

In his Sportskeeda column, the Arsenal legend said: “I said it when they signed him that Cole Palmer was a good player and he has shown in recent weeks that he’s very much a player for the present and the future.

“He can unlock defences as he’s used to training like that at Manchester City and has done really well in recent weeks.”

Cole Palmer a player for now and the future

Palmer is making an impact at Stamford Bridge right now and is still just 21 years old, so he very well could prove to be a useful asset to Chelsea in the future.

Considering the above, then, the England U21 international looks like a really good signing.

He needs to maintain this form, though, and not let this good run of games get to his head.

Under a coach like Pochettino, hopefully he should be able to do that.

The Argentine will now be looking to the former City man for more inspiration when Chelsea take on Brentford at Stamford Bridge this Saturday.

It is another London derby, so Pochettino will not be expecting an easy match. But if Palmer turns up again, then the Blues will obviously have a great chance of winning the fixture.

If not, then there is still Raheem Sterling, while Mykhailo Mudryk has looked sharp in recent weeks. Whether it was a cross or shot, the Ukraine international was still able to score a goal in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal last Saturday.
