Gareth Southgate has explained that Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill is a super talent highly rated by everyone at England.
England manager Gareth Southgate named his Three Lions squad this afternoon ahead of this month’s international break, with Chelsea duo Levi Colwill and Conor Gallagher both included in the 26-man party. Unfortunately, there’s no still no room for Blues teammate Raheem Sterling.
Colwill, who’s started every Premier League game so far this season, has been rewarded by his country due to his Chelsea form.
The 20-year-old defender earned his first senior call-up with England last month, but he watched from the bench and is still waiting for his official debut.

England boss Southgate has indicated in today’s press conference via Football Daily that he’s a huge fan of Colwill.
In addition, the left-footer could end up playing at full-back for his country despite being a centre-back by trade.
When asked if Colwill is an option for England at left-back, Southgate said: “Yeah, very much so. We’re conscious that most of his football has been as a centre-back, and I think that’s his preference and strongest position. Equally, we’re without a lot of experience at left-back, and he’s playing there regularly.
“Levi, we really like. He had a fantastic season last year at Brighton. An excellent Euros with our Under-21s. He’s adapting well to life back at Chelsea. He’s got a real maturity about his game. We’re very hopeful for his future.”
We’re optimistic that Colwill is going to become a senior England international this month.
He’s got such a huge presence on the pitch for someone still so young, so we can’t wait until we get to see him regularly starting matches at centre-back. In the meantime, he’s adapting and improving in the left-back position.
Danny Murphy recently called Colwill a “beautiful footballer” after Monday night’s win against Fulham, as quoted by talkSPORT (9:58pm, 2 October).
We can picture Colwill playing such a vital role for both club and country for many years to come.
