Erik ten Hag second favourite Premier League manager to be SACKED after Man Utd’s worst start to season in 34 years

ERIK TEN HAG is the bookies’ second favourite to be sacked following Manchester United’s awful start to the season.

The Dutchman’s second season with the Red Devils – which he went into having spent a whopping £200million in the transfer market – has been nothing short of disastrous.

The splashing of the cash hasn’t translated to success on the pitch, with the Red Devils losing FOUR of their seven Premier League matches so far this season.

Their Carabao Cup third-round win over Crystal Palace last month offered some brief respite from their domestic woes.

But their Champions League campaign has, so far, been the stuff of nightmares.

Ten Hag’s troops have yet to pick up a single point in the tournament and are ROCK BOTTOM of Group A after two matches.

United suffered a 4-3 defeat to German champions Bayern Munich in their group opener.

Things went from bad to worse on Tuesday night when they were turned over by Galatasaray, who, thanks to a goal from former Red Devil Wilfried Zaha, ran out 3-2 winners.

United have lost SIX of their ten matches in all competitions this season, picking up wins over Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Alarm bells are ringing among some of the Old Trafford faithful, with a minority of fans calling for Ten Hag’s head.

And according to Sky Bet, the former Ajax man is the second favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked.

They have the 53-year-old at 7/2 to be relieved of his duties.

Ten Hag is only second to Paul Heckingbottom, whose Sheffield United side are rock bottom of the Premier League table.

Everton boss Sean Dyche is their third favourite to be the next manager to be axed, with Bournemouth and Wolves bosses Andoni Iraola and Gary O’Neil in fourth and fifth place respectively.

Progression to the latter stages of Europe’s elite club competition seems unlikely for United, as does a Premier League title tilt.

But Ten Hag, however, is seemingly not worried about his future at the club.

He said: “Last season: brilliant, terrific, more than we could expect but also when we went into this project we knew there would be common gaps and in this moment we are in a very difficult period, as everyone can see.

“But we come out together, we are fighting together, we are sticking together, behind each other.

“It’s me, the directors, the team, all together, we will fight and this is not us.

“We know we have to do better and in togetherness we will come out.”

Manchester United will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday, welcoming Brentford to Old Trafford.
