Chelsea are back in action today as they switch the Premier League for the Carabao Cup, hosting Brighton at Stamford Bridge in the third round. The Blues are in desperate need of some form, having only won twice across both competitions this season, hopeful tonight will be the third.
In Robert De Zerbi’s side, Mauricio Pochettino finds a team that have been in decent form at the start of the campaign and will prove a decent challenge. The Chelsea head coach has urged his players to build confidence and believes that a win in the cup will go a long way towards doing that.
With that said, here’s a look at the biggest headlines ahead of another busy day with a huge game for Chelsea still to come.
Striker swap transfer deal
Chelsea could look to make a swap deal in the transfer market that would see Romelu Lukaku move to AS Roma on a permanent deal, with Tammy Abraham returning the other way. That’s according to Calciomercato, which claims that the England international could make the switch, despite an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Mauricio Pochettino sacking latest
With some poor results in the opening few matches at Chelsea, the tenure of Mauricio Pochettino has started to be questioned from some corners of the club. The owners themselves have made a decision on the situation, while the head coach has also made a plea to the higher ups.
Injury boost
Chelsea have released their injury list ahead of their EFL Cup clash with Brighton on Wednesday night, with fewer names now out of action. Only eight players featured in the latest update from the club, with two of those nearing a return, while the other six are set for longer on the sidelines.
