Despite being officially married in May this year and owning a handful of million dollar properties between them, the living arrangements of newlyweds Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker are a shock to many. The permanently loved up couple currently don’t live together—a fact the eldest Kardashian revealed earlier this month on the podcast Not Skinny But Not Fat. “I think we’re in the place where we’re figuring out how to blend our households and our kids,” she says. “There will be [a joint house],” she added. “We want our kids to also feel really comfortable and they have both lived in their homes their whole lives, for the most part, and they each have their rooms. And we are a block away.”

It looks like the day has come sooner than later, with Us Weekly reporting the pair has bought their first joint venture together: a US$14.5 million ($22.4 million) beach pad in the seaside suburb of Carpinteria, California. The former home of night show host Conan O’Brien, the four-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom dwelling offers impressive views of the ocean and Carpinteria’s white sandy beach.

Low-key and yet carefully fitted with modern interiors, O’Brien has done most of the work for the new couple, remodelling the ’50s-era house extensively before selling up. While nowhere near the size of Kardashian’s or Barker’s own monolithic Calabasas mansions—the main house is really just two bedrooms and one bathroom—the beach property is the perfect size for a casual weekender. It also contains a separate guesthouse, attached to the main house, offering an extra two bedrooms and bathrooms, which we’re imagining would be perfect for the five kids the couple share between them.

While the relaxed, weatherboard style of house is a significant departure from the airy, marble-and-stone La Quinta vacation home Kourtney already owns, a closer look at the interior proves the design is quintessentially Kardashian-approved. Sleek marble and timber line the kitchen benchtops and cabinetry, while raw wooden floorboards and creamy white-and-teal soft furnishings create an air of beachside elegance.

Exposed timber beams on the ceiling, a tropical outdoor garden and white plantation shutters add to the lived-in coastal cottage vibe, while a two-car garage (complete with Tesla charging station) and direct beach access via the front patio justifies the property’s double-digit price tag.

Of course, with beach views like this, you can see why the couple picked this as their first joint property purchase. The pair will be not just be neighbours with Kutcher and Kunis, fellow A-listers Kevin Costner and Star Wars creator George Lucas also live in the ’hood.
