“He saved me”: Leonardo DiCaprio Claims Martin Scorsese Saved His Career After $2.2B Titanic Fame, Reveals Hollywood Didn’t Want to Cast Him in New Roles

 

Leonardo DiCaprio is a phenomenal star, who is perhaps one of the best actors on the planet today. He shot to global fame with his iconic film Titanic, which was a mammoth success. However, despite his insane stardom and success, the actor revealed that he was once abandoned by Hollywood. The industry wasn’t keen on getting him involved with big projects. 

New roles were never offered to him, and this understandably made him quite sad. However, legendary director Martin Scorsese came to his rescue and saved his career.

Leonardo DiCaprio is a prolific star who remains a global silver screen performer with consistent success in Hollywood. In his lengthy career, Dicaprio has earned several critically acclaimed awards and praise, and the awesomeness of his acting genius has gained him a loyal fanbase worldwide. 

Though it wasn’t smooth sailing for him in the film industry, with his extraordinary resilience in films and hardwork, he successfully cemented a career for himself in Hollywood. His journey from being a 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 artist to one of the highest-paid stars is inspiring.

The mesmeric star began his journey in the industry in the late 1980s by appearing in television commercials. He catapulted to stardom in 1997 with his portrayal of Jack Dawson in the commercially hit movie Titanic which struck gold at the global box office by grossing $2.2B. After this movie, there was no turning back for the star. 

Leonardo DiCaprio found his cinematic soulmate in 2002 when he collaborated with the top-notch director Martin Scorsese in his crime drama directorial Gangs of New York, and they have since worked together on several masterpiece projects of Scorsese. In a candid interview, the Catch Me If You Can star claimed that he credits Martin Scorsese for saving his career in Hollywood by offering him roles in his passion projects.

Dicaprio said he always wanted to work with the director,

“He had a way of immersing you in his filmmaking that just really stood out to me as a young actor. I remember saying to myself; someday, I want to do something that good. I want to be able to be in one scene of his films.”

Scorsese also stated that legendary actor Robert De Niro recommended Dicaprio for the titular movie.

“We don’t see each other that often. So, for him to recommend somebody, out of the blue, that way to me, during a phone call, was very, very special. Thats important. It’s great to have an actor who wants to work with you,” 

The Aviator star once told Deseret News that Martin Scorsese saved his career. He said,

“He saved me. I was headed down a path of being one kind of actor, and he helped me become another one. The one I wanted to be.”

In a recent interview with Deadline, Martin Scorsese spoke about his upcoming directorial Killers of the Flower Moon, which premiered recently at the 76th Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2023, and received a nine-minute standing ovation.
