Lu-Seal, the cute Chihuahua from Pittsburgh, had a rough start in life. Abandoned by her previous owner, the nine-year-old dog was found to be morbidly obese at 16 pounds, which is twice the healthy weight for her breed. Fortunately, Lu-Seal’s luck turned around when she was adopted by Julia Morley, who put her on a strict weight loss program. Over the course of eight months, Lu-Seal has shed over six pounds and is now on the path to a healthier and happier life.
Meet Lu-Seal, the adorable chihuahua from Pittsburgh, PA. Sadly, this precious pup was left to fend for herself at the age of nine and weighed a whopping 16 pounds when found.
In just eight months, the petite pooch managed to shed more than 6lbs of weight with the help of her caring new owner. Initially, the dog was so overweight that she resembled a seal and found it challenging to walk around. With arthritis and torn CCL ligaments in both knees, Lu-Seal’s back legs were painful, making it difficult for her to maintain stability. Fortunately, the little chihuahua was adopted by Julia Morley, who is now documenting her journey on Instagram with over 800 followers. Julia has written about Lu-Seal’s weight loss progress for Pet Insider, where she shares that a vet can help determine the appropriate amount of food a dog should eat based on their weight, age, and activity level.

Julia, the owner of Lu-Seal, who is donning a Halloween costume, shared her furry companion’s weight loss journey with Pet Insider. She mentioned that a veterinarian can provide guidance on the appropriate amount of food for your dog to consume.
Julia has shared the inspiring weight loss journey of her chihuahua, Lu-Seal, stating that it has been a challenging but rewarding experience. Following her vet’s advice, Julia fed Lu-Seal 200 calories of regular food and allowed 50 calories for treats, ensuring she consumed no more than 250 calories in total. Despite only being able to walk short distances initially due to being eight pounds overweight, Lu-Seal can now walk a whole mile. Julia recommends calorie counting, exercise, fitness trackers, ensuring it doesn’t cause pain, and being patient as key weight loss tips. Using a fitness tracker, Lu-Seal moved from the bottom 20% of her breed to average, and medication helped with joint pain arising from arthritis. Julia emphasized that weight loss in dogs takes time, advising that dogs should lose only 1-2% of their body weight each week and be regularly monitored by a vet to ensure they’re not losing weight too fast or slow.
