Dogfull reported that a rescuer discovered a Pointer mix in Tijuana earlier this year. The two-year-old dog, now called Dwayne, was found scavenging for food on the streets. Sadly, the local residents treated him poorly despite his deformities, throwing stones and scalding water at him.
The person who saved the dog later found out that his previous owner had treated him horribly by using a wire-muzzle to silence him and physically abusing him with sticks. The abuser was imprisoned for something unrelated, which left the dog, named Dwayne, on his own to survive on the streets. Unfortunately, Dwayne was attacked by two large dogs, resulting in serious head injuries and almost losing his ears.
The puppy was fortunate enough to be saved by a rescuer who brought it to the Helen Woodward Animal Center. This animal shelter, situated in rancho Santa Fe, California, strongly believes in the idea that animals and people can help each other out through mutual trust, love, and respect. It is their goal to create a legacy of compassion and care for all animals. The puppy had gone through a terrible ordeal of abuse but was now in good hands.
In spite of the terrible mistreatment the dog had gone through, he showed nothing but affection to everyone he encountered. He would bend down his head, giving a lick and would softly lean his body against anyone who approached him.
The team at Helen Woodward center was dedicated to ensuring that Dwayne received the quality of life he deserved. They spent several months working on his severely deformed front leg and elbow, as well as conducting a facial reconstruction procedure to repair the extensive damage to his nose and mouth.
Vet-Stem Biopharma, a well-known institute that specializes in stem cell therapy, generously offered their advanced treatment to assist in Dwayne’s recovery.
A new technique has been developed that involves extracting tissue from an injured animal and injecting their own healing stems back into the body through intravenous means. The average cost of this procedure is roughly $2,500, but Vet-Stem Biopharma’s Dr. Schaffer was moved by Dwayne’s story and offered to perform the procedure free of charge.
The Helen Woodward Center made sure to utilize all the latest medical advancements to aid in the healing of the pup’s injuries. Among these treatments, laser therapy was also employed to target the areas affected by his facial reconstruction surgeries. This type of treatment is known to speed up recovery, reduce inflammation, and alleviate pain. Despite all the challenges he faced, the brave little dog persevered through it all.
Dwayne’s tale has moved the souls of countless animal enthusiasts, who came forward to raise more than $40,000 for his healing. Finally, in August 2017, this adorable dog that had suffered from maltreatment and abandonment was ready to get adopted by a loving family. In a kind gesture, the shelter offered a 50% discount on all of Dwayne’s medical bills for the remaining duration of his life, provided he gets treated at the facility.
Dwayne, a rescue dog who had been searching for a loving home for a while, has finally found his forever home with Kelly Nelle. With the love and care of his new owner, Dwayne is slowly forgetting his traumatic past and adjusting to life as a happy and healthy dog. He now enjoys the luxury of having his own spot on the couch, plenty of toys to play with, and all the attention from his doting human mom. It’s heartwarming to see how Dwayne has overcome his difficult past and is now thriving in his new home. His transformation is truly inspiring and brings tears of happiness to our eyes.
