“Barbie” has been the year’s biggest hit. The success of the film has shocked the world, and comes after a stunning marketing campaign from Mattel which resulted in people from all over the world attending their theaters while dressed in pink. The film, led by Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is made up of an ensemble cast made out of various Barbies, Kens and a couple of humans.
Since the film’s release and success, its been revealed that various actors were in talks to join the project but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Scroll down to have a look at who could’ve been involved in the film.
Timothée Chalamet
Greta Gerwig, “Barbie’s” director, revealed that she had planned a specialty cameo for Chalamet. Unfortunately, there were scheduling conflicts and he couldn’t appear on the film.
Saoirse Ronan
Gerwig also revealed that her frequent collaborator Saoirse Ronan was also meant to appear on “Barbie,” but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Gerwig had worked with Ronan and Chalamet in her two previous films.
“It felt like doing something without my 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren. I mean, I’m not their mom, but I sort of feel like their mom,” she said with a laugh.
Bowen Yang
Allison Jones, the casting director for “Barbie” revealed that SNL alum Bowen Yang was in talks to star on the film.
Dan Levy
Levy, star of “Schitt’s Creek,” was also meant to be featured.
Ben Platt
Platt was also meant to have a part. “They were, I’m not kidding, really bummed they couldn’t do it,” said Jones in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Jonathan Groff
Groff was meant to play Allan, who was ultimately played by Michael Cera. Jones revealed that he turned down the part via text. “‘I can’t believe I’m typing this, but I can’t do Allan,’” she shared.
Amy Schumer
A “Barbie” movie had been in discussion for years. At one point, Schumer was attached to play the lead role. She ultimately dropped out due to creative differences with the studio.
Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway was also in talks to star in the “Barbie” film, but following multiple delays she had to drop out of the project.
Gal Gadot
When Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig were developing the “Barbie” film, they wanted a lead actress that had the right energy. “Gal Gadot is Barbie energy. Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind, that it’s almost dorky,” said Robbie in an interview with Vogue.
Ultimately, Gadot wasn’t available to play the role.
