Inside indian billionaire rakesh jhunjhunwala’s new mumbai mega mansion

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, investor, stock trader and partner in asset management firm Rare Enterprises, is widely known for his shrewd business s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁s, but in common with other Indian billionaires, it’s his dealings in property that really get people talking. With an estimated net worth of US$6.2 billion, he clearly has the kind of money to build his dream home and that is exactly what he has been doing.

Now, after several years of work on a luxury 14-storey mansion with expansive views of the Arabian Sea in one of Mumbai’s most expensive areas, Malabar Hill, the one-time block of flats is almost ready to move into. The big question might be, how does it compare with the Ambanis’ 27-storey, snow room-toting Antilia?

1. It took two purchases to secure all 14 floors

According to GQ India, the property was initially a 14-storey block of flats which was purchased in two phases by 61-year-old Jhunjhunwala and his wife Rakhi. In 2013, they bought seven floors, and in 2017 they snapped up the remaining seven. Work has been ongoing ever since as the property is likely to encompass every luxury the family could want.

Times Now reported on the plans submitted to the authorities that detailed how each floor of the massive bungalow would be divided between the businessman and his family.

2. How many bedrooms is that?

The master bedroom is on the 12th floor and has been designed to have a bedroom area, separate bathroom, dressing room and living room. This is where Rakesh and his wife Rakhi will sleep. GQ India reports this floor also has a balcony, pantry and salon, along with smaller bathrooms for staff.

The 11th floor is earmarked for the 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren’s rooms. There are two bedrooms in this space, both of which have a terrace and a balcony, according to Times Now. Guests have also been included in the planning, with the fourth floor set aside for the guest bedroom. This will also have an L-shaped kitchen.

The first, second and third floors will be a combination of bedrooms and storage areas.

3. Space to mingle

The 10th floor will be where the family will come together to socialise. GQ India reports it has a double height balcony, puja room, kitchen and living room.

According to Times Now, the mansion will have a three-storey lobby area, foyer and football court on the ground floor, while the basement has been allocated for additional services like parking. There are seven parking slots allocated for the family.

4. Those little luxuries

Times Now also reports that the house will have a banquet hall, swimming pool, gym and home theatre. The 14th floor will also have a 70-square-metre conservatory, pizza counter, veggie garden, outdoor terrace and reheating kitchen. The eighth floor has been earmarked as another recreational area, housing the massage room and sauna, as well as bathrooms.
