PHOTOS: Mauricio Pochettino arrives at Chelsea training for his first day in charge sending fans into meltdown
After months of talk, the former Tottenham manager and the Blues came to a deal over the phone at the end of April. And on May 29, Chelsea finally made Pochettino their new manager.
The 51-year-old had to wait more than a month before he could start working with his new team.
Now, the day has finally come, and the club’s cameras were there when he walked into Cobham to start changing the club.
The new guy was seen being driven to the training ground in a black Mercedes people carrier with the words “WelcomePoch” and “This is where it starts” written next to it. He was wearing a black jacket, shirt, and pants with matching black trainers. As he smiled and said “good morning” to the cameras, a member of staff was there to meet him.
A few more staff members hugged and kissed Poch before he walked firmly through the door to get down to business.
Chelsea posted the clip on their social media, and it didn’t take long for fans to lose it.
“He will do great at Chelsea. Another person said, “The game-changer is here.”
“He has that aura,” wrote someone else, as more and more people said, “Welcome, gaffer!”
Chelsea’s last season was their worst since the 1990s. They didn’t win any trophies and finished 12th in the Premier League. Since they didn’t make the playoffs, they won’t play in Europe this season.
But it seems like most people are still hoping that he can turn the club around, even though the club is still getting rid of a lot of players and adding some new ones.
On Saturday, Chelsea said that they had signed Diego Moreira from Benfica.
This happened just hours after the Blues signed Alex Matos from Norwich.
This summer, they have already signed 15-year-old Kendry Paez.
Along with the string of young stars, Chelsea has signed Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal. The deal for Jackson was finalized on Friday.
During this window, they have already moved six top players.
