Man Utd’s Mason Mount stance emerges after Chelsea reject £55m ‘final bid’

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag could be set to miss out on Mason Mount after Chelsea rejected a third bid.

Manchester United could walk away from a deal for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount after seeing a third bid rejected on Friday. Erik ten Hag is at risk of missing out on his priority midfield target after United were unsuccessful with their take-it-or-leave-it offer.

Earlier this week, the Red Devils offered £50million for Mount, an increase on the £40m put on the table as their first bid.

But Chelsea rejected both fees ‘out of hand’, demanding at least £60m despite Mount entering the final 12 months of his contract.

The Blues made it a hat-trick on Friday night after club figures met to evaluate United’s improved offer worth £55m.

United reportedly issued an ultimatum with their third approach, stating that it would be their final bid for Mount before he’s available on a free transfer in 2024.

And according to the Mail, club chiefs are very reluctant to bump up their proposal anymore after Chelsea demanded £58m plus £7m in add-ons and offered to meet face-to-face to find a resolution.

United could stand their ground and move onto Ten Hag’s alternative targets if they plan to stick to their word.

But there was a widespread belief that their £50m plus £5m bid for Mount would’ve been enough to see Chelsea part ways.

And knowing they are a few million away from meeting Chelsea’s demands, United could be tempted to return with a fourth.

Ten Hag has pinpointed Mount as one of his priority summer transfer targets as he looks to continue revolutionising his United midfield.

The 24-year-old is said to be pushing for a move to Old Trafford, making it clear that he won’t extend his current contract beyond the end of next season.

Chelsea’s need for funds isn’t as desperate as it was a week ago, with an array of player sales to Saudi Arabia, Arsenal, and Manchester City lined up.

But reports claim the Blues are keen to accommodate Mount’s desires after the academy graduate’s short but sweet time in the first team.

Mount has become an established England international and helped Chelsea to their second Champions League since his promotion.
