Dr. Bridney Pope, the principal of Peeples Middle School in Jackson, Mississippi, and her team spent two days going door-to-door to find students who have been skipping school, aiming to address challenges preventing them from returning to class.

Dr. Pope led the effort with Dean Eddie Wells and Dean Joselyn Butler. The group walked through neighborhoods in the Peeples school zone, knocking on doors and speaking face-to-face with families.

According to WLBT, Jackson Public Schools said the visits were designed to connect directly with parents and guardians, offering help to remove obstacles that keep students from attending regularly.

Over the course of two days, the team visited 35 homes. They asked questions, shared resources, and encouraged families to work with the school to improve attendance.

The effort aligns with National Truancy Prevention Month, observed every August. JPS said in a statement that they are urging “all parents, guardians, and family members to play an active role in keeping 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥ren engaged and in school, at every grade level.”

The district emphasized that consistent attendance is essential to student success and assured families that schools are ready to provide support to make that possible.
