A two-year-old African American boy from Mobile, Alabama, who was shot in the head while sleeping next to his mother, is finally home after spending two months in the hospital. The 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥, identified as Kash, was released on Friday, marking an emotional milestone for his family, hospital staff, and supporters. His mother, Kersheta Ross, said the shooting has been a long and difficult journey, but she is grateful her son survived such a terrifying ordeal.

According to WSFA, Ross recalled the night of the shooting, saying she and Kash were asleep in bed when gunfire erupted outside their apartment around 1:00 a.m. “What scared me the most was Kash’s cry and his screaming,” she said. The bullet pierced through his head, narrowly missing his brain. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery and remained there for two months as he recovered.

During his hospital stay, Kash formed strong bonds with the medical staff who cared for him. Ross said many nurses were brought to tears when he was discharged. “Kash had made so many friends at the hospital during the time he spent there,” she said.

Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch believes the shooting was gang-related, but no arrests have been made. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.

For Ross, the priority now is having her son safe at home. “If they get caught, they get caught,” she said. “You can’t hide forever. They’re just going to have to deal with God.”

Kash still faces one more surgery in his recovery process. A GoFundMe has been launched to help the family cover his ongoing medical expenses as they work toward putting their lives back together.
