Twin Brothers emerge best graduating student of UI with matching 3.94/4.00CGPA in Electrical Engineering, celebrates success

Twin brothers, Busoye Opegbemi Matthias and Busoye Tolulope Matthew, have made history at the University of Ibadan by emerging as the overall best graduating students in the Faculty of Technology and the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The duo earned matching cumulative grade point averages of 3.94 out of 4.00, showcasing an extraordinary level of academic excellence and consistency throughout their studies.

Matthias shared their achievement X, reflecting on their academic journey from their first year to their final year. Despite minor changes in their grades over the years, they consistently ranked at the top of their class and ultimately graduated with matching CGPA.

The twins excellence extended beyond academics, as they both held major leadership positions—Matthias as the Honourable Speaker of the UI Students’ Representative Council and Matthew as the President of the Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students (SEEEES-UI).

In his valedictory speech, Matthew expressed deep gratitude to their mother, Mrs. Busoye Funke, for her unwavering sacrifice and strength, especially after the loss of their father, Mr. Busoye Ganiyu, who inspired their interest in the sciences.

He shared how their mother rejected offers of help from an uncle, choosing instead to keep the family together through hardship. Her resilience and commitment to their education became the foundation of their success.

Matthew also credited their siblings, lecturers, and mentors for the support that guided them through their academic journey.

Although they are graduating, the brothers emphasized that this milestone is just the beginning. With renewed hope and determination, they look forward to embracing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
