Pregnant woman emerges best graduating student of Medical School, achieves dream of becoming a Doctor

A young nIGERIAN woman named Comfort Orubo has achieved remarkable success by emerging as the best graduating student in Basic Medical Sciences at Niger Delta University in Nigeria, despite being heavily pregnant in her final year.

She shared her achievement on TikTok, where she was seen walking to the podium during her medical induction ceremony to receive her prize, with cheers from the audience.

“Have you seen a pregnant BGS? Graduated as the best graduating doctor, basic medical sciences. I cried because I was heavily pregnant and I miss my late mum. BGS, basic medical sciences,” she captioned the video.

Comfort originally earned her first degree in Human Physiology from the University of Port Harcourt. However, her lifelong dream of becoming a medical doctor pushed her to start over.

After completing her National Youth Service, she sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME also known as JAMB) again and enrolled in the MBBS program at Niger Delta University.

She got married during her fourth year and later discovered she was pregnant in her final year, after four years of waiting to conceive. Despite the challenges, Comfort remained committed to her goal and completed medical school successfully.

She has now been inducted as a licensed medical doctor and has also given 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡 to twins. Reflecting on her journey, she emphasized that her dream was delayed but not denied.

”Determination is all that matters. Dear medical student, Life didn’t end when I found out I was pregnant in my final year after being a ttc mum for four years as a medical student but now i am a doctor and mama Ejima. YOU CAN DO IT TOO,” she wrote.

Comfort’s journey to becoming a Medical Doctor took nine years—including her first degree, NYSC, marriage, and pregnancy—but she never gave up.

Comfort encourages others, especially medical students and aspiring professionals, not to be discouraged by obstacles or delays. She believes that determination, persistence, and a clear vision can help anyone achieve their dreams, no matter how long it takes.
